Toshiba and NTELOS Certify Interoperability of Strata CIX VoIP Systems and NTELOS SIP Trunking

IRVINE, Calif. and Waynesboro, Va., September 22, 2009 — Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba — www.telecom.toshiba.com) and NTELOS today announced the certification of interoperability of the NTELOS Integrated Trunking Session Initiation Protocol solution with Toshiba’s family of Strata® CIX™ IP business communication systems. Integrated Trunking is now available to NTELOS customers from Authorized Toshiba Dealers in areas of Virginia and West Virginia.

“NTELOS Integrated Trunking gives enterprise users of Toshiba Strata CIX VoIP business communication systems an affordable alternative to traditional land lines, providing them with the best of Toshiba’s enterprise telephony capabilities and reliable SIP Trunking,” said Shahin Hatamian, vice president of Product Management for Toshiba America Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems Division.

“With this certification, Authorized Toshiba Dealers can now offer NTELOS Integrated Trunking to their Toshiba Strata CIX customers, providing a cost-effective, easy-to-deploy and easy-to-manage SIP solution as part of their overall enterprise telephony system,” said John Spilman, director of Product Management & Sales Engineering, NTELOS.

“This certification confirms that Toshiba’s Strata CIX VoIP systems and Integrated Trunking work seamlessly together, providing enterprises with the confidence of reliable telephone service and equipment,” added Eric Abing, product manager, Toshiba America Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems Division.

Integrated Trunking
Integrated Trunking is ideal for future-focused businesses that have acquired IP-equipped PBX and key systems. Unlike traditional channelized trunking, Integrated Trunking allows for dynamic bandwidth allocation between Internet access, Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity and voice with a reduced number of trunks required. Features include:

  1. A Primary Rate Interface (PRI) type of service that will allow multiple voice sessions on a broadband pipe, using an IP-enabled PBX or key system
  2. Expanded local calling
  3. Integrated Trunking scalability, which combines voice and data on one pipe with room for growth
  4. NTELOS Integrated Trunking, which provides connectivity to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) over a pipe shared between voice and data services, allowing customers to make better use of T-1 or Metro Ethernet transport costs
  5. Integrated Trunking over T-1, which includes Quality of Service (QoS) for voice traffic on NTELOS facilities
