Toshiba Introduces SIP Trunking for Its Family of Strata CIX IP Business
Communication Systems
IRVINE, Calif., January 08, 2008 Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba — www.telecom.toshiba.com) today announced it has added SIP Trunking capabilities to its Strata® CIX™ family of IP business communication systems. SIP Trunking is now available from Toshiba’s nationwide network of Authorized Toshiba Dealers. “As a leading innovator in VoIP technologies, Toshiba is committed to delivering fullyfeatured VoIP solutions for our vast customer base. The addition of SIP Trunking to our Strata CIX family of IP business communication systems emphasizes this commitment, and we are pleased to be working with leading SIP carriers Cbeyond® and American Broadband Services,” said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager for Toshiba Information Systems Telecommunication Systems Division. Toshiba begins its nationwide rollout of SIP Trunking capabilities with SIP carriers Cbeyond of Atlanta, Ga., and American Broadband Services (ABS) of Fresno, Calif., and will expand to additional carriers during 2008. “Toshiba’s SIP Trunking feature gives users ISDN-like features over a data connection without the need to buy separate services for voice and data. In addition, using Toshiba’s SIP Trunking capabilities allows enterprises to have increased calling capacity on the same bandwidth,” said David Fridley, senior product manager, IP Telephony, for Toshiba America Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems Division. Toshiba’s new SIP Trunking capabilities allow the Strata CIX IP business communication system to communicate with a service provider natively over an IP circuit, which can be used to carry voice and data simultaneously. Inside the CIX, the voice is converted to data and sent to the service provider along with the same circuit as the other data packets. This allows one circuit to be used for voice and data, and it also allows for data to get all the bandwidth when no voice is present. Quality of Service (QoS) is managed by the service provider, allowing voice to instantaneously take priority over data. Unlike older solutions where a VoIP Gateway is necessary to connect the IP network to the TDM trunks, the Strata CIX system with the MIPU card and SIP Trunking puts the SIP Trunk support natively into the telecommunications system. The same MIPU interface also supports IP stations, remote users, soft phones, WiFi telephones, and Strata Net multi-system networking. Key product features and benefits include:
“Toshiba’s SIP Trunking capabilities work over our customers’ IP networks, potentially eliminating the need and cost for separate services such as T1, ISDN PRI or multiple analog lines, while allowing them to expand their IP reach beyond premises to remote locations as well as remote and mobile users,” added Ericson Abing, product manager for Toshiba America Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems Division. Compatible with Toshiba’s full line of Strata CIX IP business communication systems, Toshiba’s SIP Trunking capabilities are available on two IP interface units: Toshiba’s MIPU16 and MIPU24 support 16 ports and 24 channels, respectively. Both are compatible with BeyondVoice® with SIPconnect from Cbeyond and VoIPZone from ABS. The MIPU interface units are now available from Authorized Toshiba Dealers nationwide. About BeyondVoice from Cbeyond SIPconnect is a certification mark of the SIP Forum.
